Joe Hammond, from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District, inspects a contractor truck hauling debris at the Los Alamos Temporary Debris Reduction Site (TDRS) in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico Jan. 10. The Los Alamos TDRS processes vegetative debris from Hurricane Maria into mulch in order to reduce the debris' volume.
As a quality assurance specialist with the USACE debris management mission in Puerto Rico, Hammond checks the trucks for safety hazards, such as worn tires or inoperative brake lights.
"The trucks do take a beating, especially with the loads they're hauling in and out," he said, noting the rough road conditions in the area.
