Vegetative debris from Hurricane Maria is collected and processed at the Los Alamos Temporary Debris Reduction Site (TDRS) in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico Jan. 10. The site is used to grind the vegetative debris into mulch, reducing the volume of the debris so it does not take up as much space in landfills. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is also working with federal and local agencies to explore beneficial uses for the mulch, such as compost or landfill cover.
