Chief Petty Officer Jason Shafer, assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) 1, wipes off his MK-20 diving mask before a dive while searching for missing in action Americans off the north central coast of Vietnam. The Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command and MDSU-1 are searching for evidence of Americans that remain unaccounted-for from the Vietnam War. The mission of JPAC is to achieve the fullest possible accounting of all Americans missing as a result of the nation's past conflicts.
