Lt. Col. Brian Gilman, the commanding officer of 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, briefs participants about the battalion's upcoming deployment to Afghanistan before starting the battalion's Jane Wayne Day at Camp Margarita, Calif., June 3. Gilman briefed the spouses on the importance of family events and the importance of the Marines and sailor's mission in Afghanistan. Wives and loved ones of the battalion's Marines and sailors took part in firing weapons, the rappel tower and a mock combat fitness test during the family readiness event.
