Retired Marine Cpl. Samuel “Lee” Anderson, a former member of the 5th Marine Division, points at the place he landed on the beach 73 years ago from atop Mount Suribachi March 24, 2018 on Iwo To, Japan. Anderson, who enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1943 at 17 years old and landed on the beaches of Iwo Jima at 19 years old as a corporal, returned to the island to participate in the 73rd Reunion of Honor. The reunion is an opportunity to remember the thousands of service members who fought so bitterly on this hallowed ground. Anderson is a native of Venice, California.
