Medal of Honor recipient, retired Marine Chief Warrant Officer 4 Hershel “Woody” Williams, salutes a fallen comrade’s dog tags after hanging them on a monument atop Mount Suribachi after the 73rd Reunion of Honor ceremony March 24, 2018 on Iwo To, Japan. The ceremony allows us to remember the veterans who fought for their respective countries on this hallowed ground; their battle has inspired future generations to value and maintain peace, security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond. Williams is the only surviving Medal of Honor recipient from the Battle of Iwo Jima. He is a native of Fairmont, West Virginia. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Jamin M. Powell)
