David Coffman, director of expeditionary warfare for the staff of the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, receives a brief from Diesel Systems Overhaul and Maintenance instructors from the Naval Small Craft Instruction and Technical Training School, located at the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi.
Coffman, who toured NAVSCIATTS' facilities on March 22, provides oversight of CNO staff responsibilities pertaining to amphibious lift, mine warfare, naval fire support, and other missions essential to Expeditionary Warfare. His previous assignments as a general officer include deputy director of operations for the National Military Command Center on the Joint Staff, commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces South; deputy commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command; deputy commanding general, I Marine Expeditionary Force; and commanding general of 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade.
DSOM is an eight-week course designed to provide selected international military and law enforcement personnel with the knowledge and skills required to maintain and repair diesel engines and twin disc transmissions.
NAVSCIATTS is a Security Cooperation schoolhouse operating under U.S. Special Operations Command in support of Foreign Security Assistance and Geographic Combatant Commanders' Theater Security Cooperation priorities.
