180322-N-TI567-067 STENNIS SPACE CENTER, Miss. -- Maj. Gen. David Coffman, director of expeditionary warfare for the staff of the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, receives a brief regarding construction of the Naval Small Craft Instruction and Technical Training School's Applied Instruction Facility from Chief Warrant Officer Craig Griffin.

Once complete, the $10.4 million, 21,395 square-foot Applied Instruction Facility will include a new International Military Student Office and administrative spaces to better assist students as they proceed through their respective courses of instruction. In addition, the state-of-the-art building will provide a large lobby, a hull repair classroom and lab that will include a large fiberglass booth; a weapons classroom, a locker room, armory, and a 300-seat auditorium with an interactive stage. The new facility will also feature a large classroom that will be utilized by the Security Cooperation schoolhouse’s flagship course, the Strategic Leaders International Course.

Coffman, who toured NAVSCIATTS' facilities on March 22, provides oversight of CNO staff responsibilities pertaining to amphibious lift, mine warfare, naval fire support, and other missions essential to Expeditionary Warfare. His previous assignments as a general officer include deputy director of operations for the National Military Command Center on the Joint Staff, commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces South; deputy commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command; deputy commanding general, I Marine Expeditionary Force; and commanding general of 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade.

NAVSCIATTS is a Security Cooperation schoolhouse operating under U.S. Special Operations Command in support of Foreign Security Assistance and Geographic Combatant Commanders' Theater Security Cooperation priorities. The international training command trains and educates partner nation special operations forces, SOF-like forces and SOF enablers across the tactical, operational and strategic spectrums through in-residence and Mobile Training Team courses of instruction (U.S. Navy photo by Angela Fry, NAVSCIATTS public affairs office).
