COLUMBUS, Ohio — Maj. Eric Williams, commanding officer of Recruiting Station Charleston, West Virginia, announces the United States Marine Corps and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) National Collegiate Coaches of the Year awardees during the WBCA 2018 Convention at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, Columbus, Ohio, March 30, 2018. Marines attended the WBCA to engage with women of all experience levels and inform them about opportunities within the Corps. This year, the Marine Corps celebrates 100 years since women first joined the Corps, an anniversary celebrated for the progress of women who now have the ability to join any occupational specialty within the Marines. Before announcing the winners, Williams made a statement in honor of the centennial of woman Marines: “For the past century, women have been winning battles — both personal, and on behalf of our nation and its communities,” Williams said.
