Nikki Ange, an environmental scientist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Norfolk District, attempts to locate a property damaged by an EF-5 tornado here May 22. City officials issued Right of Entry authorizations for more than 370 properties where the owners did not sign or were unable to sign an ROE. a document allowing the Corps to enter the property and remove debris. It’s estimated that more than 6,900 homes were destroyed and an additional 875 damaged during the storm. Finding specific properties is often difficult because the tornado destroyed most street signs and landmarks.
