Army Reserve birthday observed at Fort McCoy

Spc. Kimberly Huerta, a student in the Staff Sgt. Todd R. Cornell Noncommissioned Officer Academy Basic Leader Course from the 649th Regional Support Group at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Master Sgt. Lewis Young, a student in the academy’s Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officer Course with the 84th Training Command’s Atlantic Training Division at Newport, R.I., cut a cake celebrating the 110th birthday of the Army Reserve on April 23, 2018, at the academy at Fort McCoy, Wis. Dozens of people attended the event. The Army Reserve was founded on April 23, 1908, when Congress authorized the Army to establish a Medical Reserve Corps, the official predecessor of the Army Reserve. Today, approximately 200,000 Army Reserve Soldiers serve around the globe. (U.S. Army Photo by Scott T. Sturkol, Public Affairs Office, Fort McCoy, Wis.)
