Staff Sgt. Christopher Herndon, 1249th Engineer Battalion, Task Force Gridley, Nebraska Army National Guard, sprints to the finish line for Team Warrior after running the 17th leg of the Hood to Coast Satellite Run held on Forward Operating Base Sharana in Paktika province, Afghanistan, Aug. 27. Participating runners in the 3-day relay race included National Guard soldiers from Oregon and Nebraska, as well as engineers from the 18th Engineer Brigade and civilian contractors. The race spans a course of 197 miles, divided into legs of varying distances and runners, and has been a deployed Oregon Army National Guard tradition to run in conjunction with the original Hood to Coast relay held in Oregon.
