    Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet

170404-A-FJ530-1577 FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii (July 4, 2018). U.S. Navy Capt. Mark Sousa, assigned to U.S. 3rd Fleet, Joint Forces Maritime Component Command engages in a discussion on the concept of the U.S. Army Multi Domain Task Force (MDTF) pilot program and its impact on maritime forces during a fires symposium at Rim of the Pacific on Fort Shafter, Hawaii, July 2. 17th Field Artillery Brigade hosted the fires symposium to discuss how the U.S. Army MDTF pilot program benefits by integrating with the U.S. Navy and international maritime forces during RIMPAC 18 to allow for realistic training to further develop multi domain-operational concepts. Twenty-five nations, 46 ships, five submarines, about 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 27 to Aug. 2 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security of the world’s oceans. RIMPAC 2018 is the 26th exercise in the series that began in 1971. (U.S. Army photo by Capt. Rachael Jeffcoat/Released)
