180714-G-ZV557-1166 PACIFIC OCEAN (July 14, 2018) Crewmembers aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Bertholf (WMSL 750) handle lines attached to the Military Sealift Command auxiliary dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS Carl Brashear (T-AKE 7) during a refueling-at-sea operation, July 14, while the refueled Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer helicopter ship JS Ise (DDH 182) performs a routine break away. Bertholf, Brashear and Ise are participating in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise. Twenty-five nations, 46 ships and five submarines, about 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 27 to Aug. 2 in and around the Hawaiian Island and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among the participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world’s oceans.
