California Cadet Corps Individual Major Awards statewide winners present their 1st place plaques, May 12, 2018, at Joint Forces Training Base, Los Alamitos, California, after competing against cadets of similar age and experience and being scored by a panel of judges based on their cadet knowledge, military bearing, and an essay presentation. Cadets advanced to the state competition after winning previous competitions at their school and brigade. The California Cadet Corps is a youth program for middle and high schools that falls under the banner of the California Military Department's Youth and Community Programs Task Force.
