Cadet Capt. Katrina Gilbert, of the 18th Brigade, is named Senior Division Outstanding Overall Cadet and receives a plaque and ceremonial sword from California State Military Reserve Brig. Gen. James Gabrielli, commander of the California Military Department's Youth and Community Programs Task Force, California Cadet Corps Col. Grace Edinboro, executive director, and California Cadet Corps Cadet Col. Michelle Salazar, cadet commander, during the corps' Individual Major Awards statewide competition, May 12, 2018, at Joint Forces Training Base, Los Alamitos, California. Cadets of similar age and experience competed against one another in a military board; they were scored by a panel of judges based on their cadet knowledge, military bearing, and an essay presentation. Cadets advanced to the state competition after winning previous competitions at their school and brigade.
