Dr. Mindy Simonson, archeologist and Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) scientific recovery expert, plots an excavation test pit attempting to narrow the search area during a recovery mission on Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, June 28, 2018. During the recovery mission, DPAA personnel and augmentees spent their days digging and screening in hopes of finding missing U.S. Marines lost during the first allied offensive in the Pacific Theater of World War II.
