Spc. Rolando Gutierrez of the 2-149 General Support Aviation Battalion, Sgt. Curtis Bailey of Detachment 1, F Company, 1-171 GSAB, and Sgt. Pedro Rodriguez of Detachment 1, F Company, 1-171 GSAB, load M206 an M211 flares in preparation for their common missile warning system training, held at Yankee Range in McMullen County, Texas, Nov. 1, 2011. The CMWS discharges decoy flares after detecting incoming enemy fire as an automated response in order to protect the crew of the aircraft. This training exercise is the first integration of the two systems, which will serve as the foundation for future aviation missions to further enhance defensive measures on military aircraft.
