California Army National Guard Soldiers from the 40th Military Police Company, based out of Los Alamitos, provide security to an area fictionally affected by the detonation of an improvised nuclear device during the 2011 Arizona Statewide/Vigilant Guard Exercise held in Phoenix, Nov. 3-5. The exercise is designed to enhance the California National Guard’s disaster response capabilities. Vigilant Guard is preparing the 49th Military Police Brigade to assume the role as the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Region IX military disaster coordinator, or Homeland Response Force asset.
