Master Sgt. Angelina Perez, a medic from the California Air National Guard’s 144th Fighter Wing out of Fresno, assists a casualty role player in the 2011 Arizona Statewide/Vigilant Guard Exercise held in Phoenix, Nov. 3-5. The exercise is designed to enhance the California National Guard’s disaster response capabilities. The white card around the casualty role player’s neck provides information on injuries that medics must attend to during their evaluation. Vigilant Guard is preparing the 49th Military Police Brigade to assume the role as the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Region IX military disaster coordinator, or Homeland Response Force asset.
