Philippines navy Hospitalman 3rd Class Norman Sanico, together with Lt. j.g. Melvin Pruitt with Navy Reserve Operational Health Support Unit, Detatchment J. from Houston, Texas, examine one of the younger residents of the area during the Medical Civic Action Project (MEDCAP). Medical professionals from both countries spent the day providing free health care to the local population. Hundreds turned out to take advantage of medical, dental, pharmacy, and even veterinary support during the Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) exercise series. CARAT is an annual series of bilateral maritime training exercises between the United States and six Southeast Asia nations designed to build relationships and enhance the operational readiness of the participating forces.
