SOUTH CHINA SEA (Nov. 15, 2018) – Commanding Officer Capt. Michael Luckett, center, Chief Mate David Kramer, right, and Command Master Chief William Greene, of the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39), oversee the 24th annual Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) exercises, Nov. 15. CARAT is a joint exercise between the U.S. Navy and the Royal Brunei Navy in an effort to promote theater security cooperation in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility. Land, one of only two U.S. Navy submarine tenders homeported in Apra Harbor, Guam, provides maintenance, hotel services and logistical support to submarines and surface ships in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operation.
