Senior leaders from III Marine Expeditionary Force and Marine Corps Installations Pacific meet with Shigeru Sugawara, mayor of Kesennuma City, and Oshima Island community leaders during an official visit to Oshima Island here, Jan. 12. The official visit to Oshima Island was to review community recovery progress since Operation Tomodachi and to discuss potential humanitarian assistance and disaster relief capabilities to better prepare for future support requirements. Additionally, the group will assess and evaluate the impact of the homestay program on the children and families of the local community.
