190213-N-BI251-002 Peleliu, Palau (Feb. 13, 2019) Equipment Operator 3rd Class Joshua Nunn, assigned to Civic Action Team (CAT) Palau 133-28, trims grass around the Orange Beach, World War II monument on Peleliu, Palau. Maintaining the WWII monuments on Peleliu and Angaur are part of the many duties of CAT Palau. The Battle of Peleliu was fought between U.S. and Japanese forces from September to November 1944. The battle still holds the highest casualty rate for any amphibious assault in American history. The Civic Action Team Palau provides construction support to the host nation, assists and trains apprentices with general engineering skills, facilitates a medical outreach program and conducts community service projects. CAT Palau is an integral part of the U.S. mission to assist and support the development of the Republic of Palau through the Compact of Free Association between the two nations. 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the CAT mission in Palau.
