190301-M-YD783-1009 ARABIAN GULF (MARCH 1, 2019) U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Kristopher Hernandez, a motor transport mechanic with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, receives his promotion warrant for the rank of sergeant after a ceremony on the flight deck of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD-3). Sgt. Hernandez currently assist in combat cargo on board the Kearsarge where he helps facilitate the movement and storage of cargo and vehicles on the ship. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
