190301-M-YD783-1013 ARABIAN GULF (MARCH 1, 2019) U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Kristopher Hernandez, a motor transport mechanic with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, holds his promotion warrant for the rank of sergeant after a ceremony on the flight deck of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD-3). Sgt. Hernandez assist in combat cargo aboard the Kearsarge and helps facilitate the movement and storage of cargo and vehicles on board the ship. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
