NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. (March 7, 2019) Former astronaut and retired Navy Capt. James A. Lovell, (left); James Byrne, the acting Deputy Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs; Lt. Gen. Darrell Williams, commander of the Defense Logistics Agency; and Dr. Steven Lieberman, acting principal deputy under secretary for health, Veterans Health Administration, cut a ribbon for the VA Defense Logistics Agency Medical Surgery Prime Vendor kick-off at the Capt. James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center. FHCC Director Dr. Robert Buckley stands on the left and FHCC Deputy Director/Commanding Officer Capt. Gregory Thier holds the ribbon on the right. The new agreement will boost the FHCC's purchasing power for medical and surgical supplies and sets the stage for the FHCC's adoption of the Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support system in October. Lovell FHCC is the first-of-its-kind, and only, federal health care center that integrates Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs medical care into a single combined mission.
