190308-M-YD783-1024 GULF OF OMAN (March 8, 2019) U.S. Marine Cpl. John Dowd, a satellite operator with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, connects the wiring of a Very Small Aperture Terminal satellite on the flight deck of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD-3). Marines, with 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, assembled the satellite as part of a function check to ensure the device will be ready for use in an upcoming training. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
