GULF OF OMAN (March 8, 2019) U.S. Marines with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, boot the system of a Very Small Aperture satellite after its assembly on the flight deck of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD-3). Marines with 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment set up the satellite to enable the ship to have secure access to IP broadband networks and command post communications from any location. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
