190308-M-YD783-1060 GULF OF OMAN (March 8, 2019) U.S. Marine Cpl. Timothy Smith, a technical controller with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, helps to troubleshoot during the setup of a Very Small Aperture Terminal satellite on the flight deck of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD-3). Cpl. Smith assisted Marines from 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, in assembling the satellite as part of a function check to ensure that the device would be ready for use in an upcoming training. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
