PEARL HARBOR, HI (12 April 2019) - LT Dave Price, Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) Operations Officer, discusses the Two Week Tropical Cyclone (TC) Formation Outlook product which was launched by JTWC last year for use by DoD customers. The Two Week TC Formation Outlook examines climatology, longer range models, intraseasonal oscillations, and environmental conditions to identify areas where tropical cyclogenesis is more favored, on a longer time scale than JTWC's traditional "invest" system, which relies on already having an existing disturbance to track. This gives decision makers a longer lead time. JTWC hosted the Tropical Cyclone Conference to bring together scientists, academics, and operational forecasters from around the world to share the latest research and operational advances in the tropical cyclone world.
