HAMBANTOTA, Sri Lanka (April 24, 2019) – Commander of Navy Expeditionary Forces Command Pacific, U.S. Navy Capt. Eric Correll, describes the partnership opportunities with U.S. Navy Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion FOUR(NMCB-4) during the 2019 Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) exercise April 24, 2019. Correll, based on Guam, presented a plaque to Mrs. Dilani Champika, principal of Pahala Andarawew Primary School, as a symbol of cooperation and goodwill towards the community.
A handful of Seabees, based Port Hueneme, Calif., were on hand along with Sri Lanka Navy counterparts to discuss the project where they were scheduled to complete an Engineering Civil Action Project (ENCAP) in the southern part of the country for the next six weeks. However, the exercise was paused on April 21 due to the Easter Sunday attacks in the capital city and other places in Sri Lanka. The school rehabilitation project will continue and is expected to be completed by Sri Lanka Navy engineers with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony slated for some time in June.
