HAMBANTOTA, Sri Lanka (April 24, 2019) – Commander of Navy Expeditionary Forces Command Pacific, U.S. Navy Capt. Eric Correll(center) and Command Master Chief Rick Straney(right), met with U.S. Navy Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion FOUR(NMCB-4) who were designated to rehabilitate an elementary school during the 2019 Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) exercise in Hambantota, Sri Lanka, April 24, 2019.
Approximately 20 Seabees were scheduled to work with Sri Lanka Navy civil engineering counterparts for about six weeks in the southern part of the country as part of an Engineering Civil Action Project (ENCAP). However, the exercise was paused due to the Easter Sunday attacks in the capital city and other places in Sri Lanka on April 21. The school rehabilitation project will continue and is expected to be completed by Sri Lanka Navy engineers with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony slated for some time in June.
