Pfc. Jason M. Adams, armor crewman assigned to Company D, 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, uses a water canon to wash off the wheel wells of an M1A2 System Enhancement Package Abrams Tank, March 1, at the Mountain Post wash rack. Adams, a native of Orlando, Fla., and the loader for his tank crew, conducted his first live-fire exercise with 1-66thAR Feb. 28 – 29, to test the capabilities of the unit’s M1A2 SEP Abrams Tanks, and work out any kinks before the brigade’s field training exercise. “Initially, it’s incredibly nerve-wracking to load a round into the back of a weapon that you know is going to have a lot of recoil when it’s fired,” he said. “You load the round, the round is fired; then it’s like the whole world stops for a moment, and you stop with it, but then you snap out of it, because you’ve got a job to do, and there’s always another round to be loaded.”
