Staff Sgt. John M. Kraft, tank commander assigned to Company D, 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, waits in the hatch of an M1A2 System Enhancement Package Abrams Tank, March 1, at the Mountain Post wash rack, for the rest of his unit’s tanks to roll out after being washed. Kraft, a native of Dunedin, Fla., conducted a live-fire exercise with 1-66thAR Feb. 28–29, to test the capabilities of the unit’s M1A2 SEP Abrams Tanks, and work out any kinks before the brigade’s field training exercise. “The new M1A2 SEP tank differs from previous models as it includes thermal imaging and a set of electronic controls that work the gun on top of the tank,” he said. “All that extra equipment basically equates to a safer way to have more eyes downrange and more specific sectors of fire; now the crew can see more land and share what they are seeing with each other.”
