NAVAL SUPPORT FACILITY DEVESELU, Romania (May 22, 2019) – U.S. Navy Capt. Jackie Knick, Commanding Officer of Naval Support Facility Deveselu (NSFD), greets staff and students from the Marine Corps War College May 22, 2019. The group traveled from Quantico, Va., to Romania as part of their capstone project in Diplomacy and Statecraft and wanted to make a site visit to the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System at NSFD. During their visit, they learned more about the Aegis Ashore program to better understand how it fits into the U.S. and NATO partnership in Eastern Europe. They toured the Aegis Ashore facility, which became fully operational in 2016, and learned more about the U.S. Navy’s unique mission of Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) and the strategic partnerships between the U.S. Department of Defense and NATO.
