NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- An Arkansas National Guard Color Guard presents the colors at the retirement ceremony of Brig. Gen Kirk Van Pelt here June 8, 2019. Van Pelt was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1985 through the Officer Candidate Program at the Arkansas Regional Training Institute. He commanded an infantry battalion in Baghdad, Iraq, from 2004 to 2005; and garrison command in Taji, Iraq, in 2008. Prior to retiring, he served as the Land Component Commander, Arkansas Army National Guard.
