Senior Airman Cynthia Forsyth, an aircrew flight equipment technician assigned to the 437th Operations Support Squadron, fastens an air filtration system to an aircrew eye and respiratory protector June 12, 2019, at Joint Base Charleston, S.C. The AERP system is a chemical and biological filtration system designed for aircrew members. The aircrew carries the protective system on-board the aircraft with them in their deployment bag when the threat of chemical or biological weapons are present. Airmen from the AFE shop help maintain equipment and act as the subject matter experts, providing life-saving training to aircrews while ensuring they are equipped to operate in contested environments.
