A mannequin inside the 437th Operations Support Squadron, known as “Bob”, wears an aircrew eye and respiratory protector June 13, 2019, at Joint Base Charleston, S.C. The AERP system is a chemical and biological filtration system designed for aircrew members. The aircrew carry the protective system on-board the aircraft with them in their deployment bag in case chemical or biological weapons are present. Airmen from the aircrew flight equipment shop help maintain equipment and act as the subject matter experts, providing life-saving training to aircrews while ensuring they are equipped to operate in contested environments.
