NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO (June 21, 2019) - Vice Adm. Richard Brown, commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, speaks with Capt. Christopher Westphal, commanding officer of the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), and Sailors of navigation department in the ship’s pilot house during a waterfront engagement. The visit was an opportunity to discuss the current and future status of the Surface Force in an effort to continue the shift from a culture of compliance to a culture of excellence, producing ships and Sailors ready for the high-end fight.
