Pfc. Michael A. Marrero, 851st Transportation Company, fires an M4 Carbine during the weapons qualification for the 316th Expeditionary Sustainment Command 2012 Best Warrior competition. Marrero, a native of Newark, N.J., hoped to bring home the trophy for the category of enlisted ranks specialist and below, but said he would give his all, regardless of the outcome. “I plan on working as hard as I can, … showing all of my effort, and coming out on top of the competition,” said Marrero. “It sounds easy, but nothing’s easy, so I’m not expecting it to be handed to me … if I see somebody that’s pushing hard and I think I can push harder than I already am, then I will.” This year, the “Soldier of the Year” victory went to Spc. Christopher P. Fitt, 439th Quartermaster Company. Staff Sgt. John W. Schillereff, 38th Regional Support Group, won “Best Warrior” title for the non-commissioned officers. The two winners advance to the 377th Theater Sustainment Command Best Warrior competition.
