First Lt. Hunter Cantrell of the U.S. Army's 690th Rapid Port Opening Element talks to a simulated news reporter March 29, 2012, at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. The scenario was part of Eagle Flag, a U.S. Air Force-sponsored exercise to prepare units for operating in deployed environments. Cantrell was serving as officer in charge of a Joint Task Force-Port Opening forward node, a facility that serves as a distribution point for cargo arriving by airlift. The 690th worked in partnership with the Kentucky Air National Guard's 123rd Contingency Response Group, which operated the airlift reception side of the JTF-PO, known as an aerial port of debarkation.
