NAVAL AIR STATION NORTH ISLAND – (July 11, 2019) Lt. Curtis Khol (right), a submariner from Vienna, Va., and operations officer assigned to the Navy’s Undersea Rescue Command (URC), speaks with educators from Central and South Texas on the mission capabilities of the Submarine Rescue Chamber (SRC) during Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Antonio’s annual Educator Orientation Visit (EOV). The EOV is a Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) program with a main focus of showing educators the various facets of America’s Navy and the many career paths available to students. Additionally, the group visited Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron SIX (HSC 6), USS Alexandria (SSN 757), USS Fort Worth (LCS 3), Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewmen (SWCC) Training Center, Naval Medical Center San Diego, Pacific Beacon Housing, and the Fleet Readiness Center, among others. URC is the U.S. Navy's official command for the rescue of Sailors during a submarine casualty anywhere in the world. Its mission is worldwide submarine assessment, intervention and rescue. URC conducts its mission using deep submergence systems including a remotely operated underwater vehicle, submarine rescue chamber, pressurized rescue module and side scan sonar.
