NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO – (July 10, 2019) Central and South Texas educators and counselors, along with support personnel from Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Antonio, toured the Freedom-class littoral combat ship, USS FORT WORTH (LCS 3) during the NRD’s annual Educator Orientation Visit (EOV). The EOV is a Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) program with a main focus of showing educators the various facets of America’s Navy and the many career paths available to students. Additionally, the group visited Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron SIX (HSC 6), USS Alexandria (SSN 757), Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewmen (SWCC) Training Center, Naval Medical Center San Diego, Pacific Beacon Housing, the Fleet Readiness Center, and the Navy's Undersea Rescue Command, among others. NRD San Antonio’s area of responsibility includes more than 34 Navy Recruiting Stations and Navy Officer Recruiting Stations spread throughout 144,000 square miles of Central and South Texas territory. The USS Fort Worth is a part of the U.S. Navy's Pacific Fleet and is the first to bear the name of the nation's 16th largest city. The ship can travel in depths less than 20 feet and reach speeds in excess of 40 knots. The ship is designed to be agile and maneuverable as part of the Navy’s warfighting arsenal (U.S. Navy Photo by Burrell Parmer, Navy Recruiting District San Antonio/Released)
