The Benavidez family stands in reverence during the invocation at a rally in honor of their son, Staff Sgt. Kenneth Mayne, held at Fort Carson's Manhart Field April 13, 2012. Following the rally, Mayne's parents, Dan and Michelle Benavidez, walked the ceremonial first mile of a 1,080-mile march the Family is conducting to raise awareness of the service and sacrifices made by today’s military Families. Their son, Staff Sgt. Kenneth Mayne, a 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th infantry Division Soldier, was killed in 2008 during a deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
