Educators from Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee view a display in “The Last 100 Yards” exhibit at the National Infantry Museum in Columbus, Ga., during the U.S. Army, Baton Rouge Recruiting Battalion Education Tour at the Maneuver Center of Excellence in Fort Benning, Ga., from June 19 to June 21, 2019. The exhibit is a gently sloped ramp depicting significant battles in the infantry’s history, such as Yorktown, Va., Antietam at Sharpsburg, Md., Soissons and Normandy, France, Corregidor Island, Philippines, Soam-Ni, Korea, Landing Zone X-Ray in Vietnam, and Iraq. After the air and artillery strikes, it is the infantryman’s job to face the enemy bayonet to bayonet and own the last 100 yards of the battlefield.
