Marines with the Command Element of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit prepare to participate in the Warrior of the Month competition aboard USS Iwo Jima, May 1, 2012. During the competition Lance corporals and below competed in four events - physical fitness, drill, uniform inspections, and a formal question and answer session - to be selected as the Warrior of the month. The competition is organized by Corporals of the 24th MEU and will be held every month while deployed. At the end of the deployment the warrior of each month will then compete for the title of Warrior of the Deployment. The unit is deployed with the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group serving as a theater reserve force providing support for maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts.
