The 800-ton single-anchor leg mooring (SALM) buoy, travels down two sets of rails, guided by hydraulics on the Military Sealift Command (MSC) government owned tanker ship SS Petersburg (T-AOT-9101). The ship is participating in Arctic Expeditionary Capabilities Exercise 2019 off the coast of San Diego, Calif. The SALM deployment is the first of this type of exercise conducted in Southern California.
