U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Fritz Wagoner, with the 731st Airlift Squadron, conducts an operations check of his helmet and oxygen mask prior to a Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS) training flight during a certification and recurrent training exercise at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo., April 21, 2012. MAFFS is a portable fire retardant system that can be installed on C-130 Hercules aircraft to convert them into air tankers. MAFFS-certified military units partner with federal land management agencies to provide supplemental air tankers to assist in fire suppression efforts nationwide.
