Submitted Photo by Clay Farrington. John Pentangelo, Director of the Hampton Roads Naval Museum, thanks sailors assigned to the Ticonderoga-Class Guided Missile Cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG-64) personally with a coin. The continent of sailors were at the museum to assist with the unloading and installation of a large model of the USS Newport News (CA-148); which saw action during the Vietnam War. The model arrived later that day, and sailors, museum staff members, and contractors gently unloaded, pushed and lifted the model into place. The model, along with other artifacts, dioramas, graphics panels and interactive displays, is part of the museum’s new exhibit “The Ten Thousand Day War at Sea: the US Navy in Vietnam, 1950-1975”. The new exhibit will encompass over 4,700 square feet of their gallery, and is scheduled to open to on October 9, 2019. (US Navy Photo by Clay Farrington/Released).
